Closer look
For those that did not take the time to read through the specifications portion of the review let me recap a little before moving forward. The TX stands just under 5.5 inches tall making it suitable for usage in any standard tower dwelling. Chances you would have to look elsewhere if you want to use such a cooler in a HTPC or SFF build. If weight is a sign of a good entry level cooler than the TX3 is ideal. The cooler weighs in at just over a pound making the use of the standard Intel push-pin a non-issue.
The TX3 is comprised of 43 individual aluminum fins attached to copper heat pipes. The fins are arrange in a way that a second fan can be added for a push-pin configuration. Coolermaster added the cut-in notches on the fins of the fins to support another wire cramp for holding the fan.
The copper heat pipes that support the structure are placed evenly apart. There are three total pipes that start at the top of the cooler and makes a u-turn at the base of the cooler and ends back at the top of the cooler. The diameter of the pipes measure 6mm which has become a standard with most coolers that use heat pipes for heat transfer.
The base of the cooler uses the heavily used HDT or heat direct transfer technology that we have seen started by Xigmatek. We have come to witness this new technology perform well and managed to keep manufacturing pricing down. Holding the pipes stable is an aluminum plate that also serves as part of the base. The holes that you see in the aluminum plate are used to secure the mounting hardware to the cooler.
Lastly, we take a short look at the fan that accompany the cooler. In this case we have a seven blade fan which the blades has a new wavy concept. The twist in the blades are to allow for quieter spin. The fan is PWN-ly controlled and can spin between 800 - 2800 RPM. never topping 35 dBA while pushing a maximum 55 CFM.
