Ideum MT-50 multitouch table, now the fastest and toughest on the market

CORRALES, New Mexico (March 2, 2010) Ideum has announced major improvements to its commercially available MT-50 multitouch table.

Ideum has released two new videos illustrating these improvements. One shows the inside components of the MT-50, while the other just how tough the table is as a 12 pound bowling ball is dropped onto the glass surface of the table!

The improved MT-50 supports over 60 simultaneous touch points, allowing several people to interact with the table at the same time.  The main computer unit and video card in the table are significantly faster than those found in the Microsoft Surface table.

Not only does the MT-50 support more touch points and run faster, it is significantly larger--with a 50" display--and higher resolution than the Microsoft Surface. This means it can accommodate more users making it a true multiuser platform.

The MT-50 table is also incredibly durable. Its framing system is made of aircraft grade aluminum, steel panels, and thick, ultra-clear, micro-etched, tempered glass.  All of the components are of the highest quality.  It's single button operation and automated shutdown features make it easy to operate.

"We focus on performance and durability," says Jim Spadaccini, Creative Director of Ideum and former Director of Interactive Media at the Exploratorium. "We know what museum environments are like, and we design our tables to not just survive, but to thrive in these demanding public spaces. The bowling ball test is a fun way to show just how tough these tables really are."

The MT-50 multitouch table has been installed in public venues across North America such as:  California Science Center, the Getty, NASA, Oakland Museum, Ontario Science Centre, Vancouver Aquarium, and others.

The MT-50 multiouch table ships with Ideum's own GestureWorks framework, which allows Flash developers to easily develop their own custom multitouch applications. GestureWorks is the most advanced way to author multitouch on Flash and is also available for sale as a stand-alone product.

The tracking software that comes with the MT-50 was developed by NUITEQ, a Swedish technology company specializing in multitouch software. Ideum and NUITEQ have been technology partners since 2008.

Ideum was founded in 1999. Its exhibits and Websites have won numerous awards over the years, including: the American Association of Museums' MUSE Awards, the Webby Awards, the Pirelli International Multimedia Awards, the Museums and the Web Conference "Best of the Web," and other industry awards.
