OCZ unveils the Solid 2 family of solid state drives

Continuing with its SSD push, the OCZ Technology Group has now announced the Solid 2, the "most affordable Indilinx-based" drives. Coming in 60 and 120GB capacities, the new 2.5-inch SSDs have a SATA 3.0 Gbps interface, 64MB of cache, MLC NAND memory, and a MTBF of 1.5 million hours. In terms of speed, both drives will top 125 MB/s when reading, with the 60GB model reaching 80 MB/s when writing, whereas the 120GB version will do that at up to 100 MB/s.

"While solid state drives offer exceptional performance, the high cost of ownership has been a barrier for many consumers," commented Eugene Chang, Vice President of Product Development at the OCZ technology Group. "It has always been our goal to make quality SSD drives affordable to the complete range of customers. By making use of the proven Indilinx controller coupled new flash technology, OCZ is excited to introduce the Solid 2 that delivers increased reliability and performance over competing traditional and solid state solutions at a price point that is truly within reach of mainstream consumers."

Expected to become available soon, the Solid 2 solid state drives will be backed by a three-year warranty. tcmagazine
