Cheaper 2.83GHz Core 2 Quad may launch soon


Intel might be gearing up for the Lynnfield launch, but that doesn't have to mean the end of the Core 2 Quad series. At least, not quite yet. Fudzilla writes that Intel is readying two new Core 2 Quads to supplant the existing Q9550 model.

Reportedly, the upcoming Core 2 Quad Q9500 will be very much like the Q9550—45nm Yorkfield design, 2.83GHz clock speed, and 95W power envelope—but it will feature 6MB of total L2 cache instead of 12MB. The Core 2 Quad Q9505 will supposedly have the same specs as the Q9500, plus VT-d and TXT capabilities. The Tech Report
