Introduction to the Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1200W Power Supply

Honestly, how many of you out there need a 1200 watt power supply? Chances are not a whole lot. Yet there is a small percentage that do. Let’s think about it for a minute. You have endless pockets or have been saving up for some time, and your new rig is to be comprised of some of the biggest and fastest components on the market. Triple SLI’ed GTX580’s or dual CrossfireX Radeon HD 6990, Intel Core i7-990X, 12GB DDR3, Solid State Drives in RAID with a couple of 3TB mechanical drives, this would be one reason to require a 1200 watt power supply.

The market is not exactly flooded with 1200+ watt power supplies to buy, but you also cannot trust your precious hardware to just any high powered unit either. So, who else better to trust than Thermaltake? Just recently Thermaltake release their newest PSU line to the masses; this series was called Grand. The name Grand is given to the series to specify its unique look and its make-up of high quality components. The series is comprised of models ranging from a modest 650 watts, all the way up to a 1200 watt model. Today, we will be taking a look at the big daddy of them all, that 1200 watt model.

The Grand is a dual 12v rail unit that has an unprecedented 125A between the two of them. Meeting the requirement for having an 80PLUS Gold rating, the unit promises to be a winner when it comes to stability and the reliability which is ever present in Thermaltake products.
