Sapphire HD 4670

Introduction

Frequent readers of Pro-Clockers will remember we reviewed a Sapphire HD 4670 not too long ago. We weren't too amazed by the impressive numbers the card displayed as it did have to compete against some pretty decent and speedy Nvidia cards. We were also very fortunate to receive two of these cards to compare it in Crossfire mode as well. In Crossfire, we saw the pair kick the butt of the older but once high-end HD 3870. Yes, for about $70 or so you could have a great all-around GPU that was more than adequate to play the latest games as well as display your HD movies without issues. The only issue we had with the card was it was a little noisy under full load. Today, Sapphire has sent us a faster and quieter HD 4670.

Taking a look at the HD 4670, this is not the same HD 4670 we reviewed some months ago. This is a new and improved HD 4670 when has been packed with GDDR4, which is a technology jump from the GDDR3 on the older model. What we will be looking at besides the performance increase from the new memory is the new and quieter dual slot active cooler which sits atop the 750MHz GPU core. Sit back and read on as we take the new HD 4670 for a hefty round of tests.

A little something from Sapphire

The new SAPPHIRE HD 4670 GDDR4 has been production engineered by SAPPHIRE to bring new levels of performance to the mainstream previously associated only with high end cards. With its 320 stream processors and carrying 512MB of GDDR4 memory the SAPPHIRE HD 4670 GDDR4 is now the best product in its class. Clock speeds are 750MHz for the core and 1100MHz (2.2GHz effective) for the memory making this the fastest HD 4670 card available. The card is cooled by a new large diameter fan based cooler which keeps noise levels to the minimum (<20dBA).
